Coastal Pediatric Dental & Anesthesia's Philosophy

Choosing a dentist can be tricky, especially because you are told to rely on a 3rd party, your insurance, to ensure you get the best price for the best treatment. Insurance companies love to tell you that they credential the best dentists to be part of their network and negotiate a discount for you – getting you the highest quality dental care at the lowest price. However, the truth is, insurance companies contract dentists by promising them access to more patients, their beneficiaries, in return for accepting a discount on what insurance pays. Therefore, what happens is that the dentist fees are much higher, so insurance pays them better. The problem is that this passes the costs on to the patient. In the end, the patient pays more, the dentists get paid less, BUT the insurance makes more money.

Coastal also specializes in anesthesia for dental care, which insurance companies hate. They hate this because the insurance company has to pay for the full cost of fixing all the dental problems at one time. That is why they protect themselves from paying the full cost with plan maximums that are typically about $1500. Additionally, for children, they would love to limit or postpone the amount of care so that those baby teeth can just be extracted because they know most children with a lot of dental needs will struggle to get treatment without sedation or anesthesia. Hence the reason insurance plans often limit sedation and anesthesia to “approved surgical procedures” such as surgical extractions or try to pass the buck to a medical plan.

Coastal Pediatric Dental & Anesthesia focuses on taking care of you and your child, by offering the right treatment and fair and affordable prices. We are proud of our reasonable and fair fees, and therefore share them with you openly. We also work with you to bill your insurance, so we can maximize your benefit from your insurance company. It is a win-win for everyone (except the insurance company). You will always get a treatment plan estimate from us, with a good faith estimate of what your insurance typically pays, and the remainder is your “copayment” or patient responsibility.

Below you will find the fees for our most common treatments and services. If you are still worried you might not be getting a fair price for the highest quality care, feel free to compare us to the local and regional averages at fairhealthconsumer.org
